The former hotel directly below Germany's highest peak now serves as a research station and an international forum for scientists who are committed to climate protection. The rugged surroundings and the relentless climate at an altitude of 2,650 meters characterize the architecture of this building, which adapts to its surroundings in a distinctive but non-disruptive manner.
When it came to the interior design, the climate factor was the decisive factor: permanent temperatures in the minus range outside - nevertheless a pleasant atmosphere inside the building - that requires perfect moisture management. In addition, the floor had to allow a height adjustment of 50 cm and still not sound hollow.
